Why do cubic yards and tons not convert exactly?
Cubic yards measure volume and tons measure weight. The conversion depends on density, which varies with aggregate size, soil composition, moisture and compaction.
How do I measure an irregular garden bed?
Split it into rectangles or other simple sections, calculate each section separately and add the quantities. A small editable allowance can cover measurement uncertainty.
Does the estimate include compaction?
The calculator reports geometric volume and an editable waste allowance. Ask the material supplier or project specification for the appropriate compaction factor.
