Drywall quantity is based on surface area, but sheet orientation and seam layout determine practical waste. Enter room dimensions, wall height and total openings, choose a sheet size, and decide whether the ceiling is included. Board type, thickness and fire or moisture ratings are separate decisions.
With 8 ft walls and a ceiling, the gross surface area is 472 square feet. After subtracting 42 square feet of openings and adding 10% waste, the order area is 473 square feet, which rounds up to 15 sheets at 4 × 8 ft.
