FORMULA

How this estimate works

Volume = total run length × footing width × footing depth × quantity.

BuildCalc converts measurements to a consistent internal unit, applies your project geometry and only then adds the selected waste allowance. Packaging quantities are rounded up because partial bags, blocks or boxes usually cannot be ordered.

BEFORE YOU ORDER

Field notes

  • Use dimensions specified by the project designer or local code.
  • Calculate pads and piers separately.
  • This estimates quantity only; it does not design a foundation.
PRACTICAL GUIDE

How to plan with this concrete footing calculator

Use the footing calculator for continuous rectangular runs that share the same width and depth. Add the lengths of matching runs, enter dimensions from the project requirements, and calculate isolated pads, piers or stepped sections separately. The result is a quantity estimate, not a foundation design.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Example: two 40 ft footing runs

Two 40 ft runs that are 16 in wide and 8 in deep contain about 71.1 cubic feet, or 2.63 cubic yards, before waste. A 10% allowance raises the planning quantity to roughly 2.90 cubic yards.

USE THIS TOOL FOR

Good planning fits

  • Continuous strip footings
  • Matching foundation-wall footing runs
  • Comparing volume before and after waste
COMMON QUESTIONS

Concrete Footing Calculator FAQ

Can this tool size a footing?

No. It only calculates volume from dimensions you provide. Footing width, depth, reinforcement and concrete strength require project-specific design and code review.

How should stepped footings be measured?

Divide the footing into sections with consistent dimensions, calculate each section separately and add the resulting volumes.
