FORMULAHow this estimate works
Bricks = net wall area ÷ (brick face + mortar joint module area).
BuildCalc converts measurements to a consistent internal unit, applies your project geometry and only then adds the selected waste allowance. Packaging quantities are rounded up because partial bags, blocks or boxes usually cannot be ordered.
BEFORE YOU ORDERField notes
- Brick dimensions and joint thickness vary.
- Corners, patterns and cuts increase waste.
- Structural and veneer requirements are outside this estimate.
PRACTICAL GUIDEHow to plan with this brick calculator
Brick count depends on the installed face module, not just the bare brick dimensions. Enter wall length and height, subtract measured openings, and use the actual brick face plus joint size. Corners, patterns, breakage and specialty units can require additional material.
WORKED EXAMPLEExample: a 20 × 8 ft wall
With no openings, the wall has 160 square feet of face area. A 7.625 × 2.25 in brick with a 0.375 in joint creates an 8 × 2.625 in module, producing 1,098 bricks before waste. An 8% allowance raises the estimate to 1,185 bricks.
USE THIS TOOL FORGood planning fits
- Straight brick veneer wall areas
- Testing brick and mortar-joint modules
- Preliminary unit count and cost
COMMON QUESTIONSBrick Calculator FAQ
Should nominal or actual brick dimensions be entered?
Enter the actual face dimensions of the chosen brick and the intended mortar joint. Their sum forms the installed module used for coverage.
Does the brick estimate include mortar?
No. It estimates brick units only. Mortar quantity depends on unit size, joint profile, wall construction and job conditions.
